A little bit of history
It seems like everything meets at the Abrolhos Islands thanks to the warm Leeuwin current that meanders past on its southbound journey. These islands were formed nearly 10,000 years ago and they actually cover 100kms of ocean from north to south and are split into three main groups:
- Wailibi
- Pelsaert
- Easter
The Abrolhos Islands are all about wildlife, from the huge pods of dolphins and majestic whales, to the rare ospreys, sea eagles, turtles. rock lobster. For others, the Abrolhos has become one of Western Australia's premier fishing destinations, famed for its coral trout, Spanish mackerel, baldchin groper, dhufish and pink snapper.
Today the Abrolhos Islands are an A-class Reserve and have thankfully become protected for future generations to enjoy. Magellan subscribes to all parts of this conservation effort and instils this philosophy into almost every aspect of its charter business.
A must see for the eco tourist.
